- Intihuatana – At the top of the religious enclosure is the Intihuatana, Quechua word meaning ‘sundial’ Like other intihuatanas, it served to receive the solar rays and predict the time of planting and harvesting. It is said that by reaching out the hands, the energy of the sun radiates to the visitors.
- Temple of the 3 Windows – This religious site shows the largest stones carved with greater precision. It has three large trapezoidal windows that represent the vision of the Inca world in three sacred regions: the Hanan pacha (upper world), the Kay pacha (underworld) and the Uku pacha (underworld).
- The Sacred Rock – To the north of the Inca citadel stands out this great rock carved following the shapes of a mountain. It has a base of seven meters and a height of 3 meters. Visitors often leave offerings of coca leaves. They also say that, by bringing your hands closer, the energy of the rock reaches the tourist.
- The Temple of the Condor – The condor was a bird considered sacred by the Incas because it communicated the earthly world with the upper or heavenly world. The condor temple is made up of two carved stone formations that, when joined and seen from afar, resemble the body and head of a condor.
- Huayna Picchu – Huayna Picchu is the most famous mountain in Machu Picchu. Its name means ‘young mountain’. Its summit is 2,667 meters above sea level, some 300 meters higher than the Inca citadel. The walk to the top is 2,000 stone steps. It takes between 1 to 2 hours.
