What is the history of Machu Picchu?

According to more rigorous and scientific studies, Machu Picchu was built by the Inca Pachacútec, between the 1460s. This place would represent an important control point entering the Antisuyo or the jungle area for the Tawantinsuyo. It is very important because you can find religious and imperial buildings which, for some, would represent the royal home of the Inca Pachacútec.

During Spanish rule, the hosts of the Spanish crown could not find Machu Picchu, which ended up being abandoned by the inhabitants. However, in the popular knowledge of the natives of the area, the location of this place was maintained. This knowledge passed from generation to generation without them being able to do anything, leaving this entire place covered by the extensive vegetation, typical of the jungle.

In the year 1911 an expedition commanded by Hiram Bingham and a group of archaeologists, found the place, first guided by records on maps, the help of the inhabitants of the area and the first unsuccessful expedition of the Peruvian Agustín Lizárraga. The purpose of the expedition was to find the site of the Incas of Vilcabamba, but they found Machu Picchu and little by little more Inca constructions were discovered in areas very close to the wonder of the world.

Over the years it is named as a Historic Sanctuary in 1981, two years later, it is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Before the new century, the roads and rails to this place began. In 2007 it was considered one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World. In 2011, some archaeological samples were recovered from the Peruvian State, which were placed in the Casa Concha Museum in Cusco. At present, the visit to this site is limited, however, new hiking and mountain routes have been opened to enhance this travel experience.
