- The tour begins in the city of Cusco with hotel pickup at 5 AM. From there, a tourist transport takes you to Wánchaq station. Then, the journey continues to Aguas Calientes (bus + Expedition train). In Aguas Calientes, the trip concludes with the Consettur bus ride to the entrance of Machu Picchu. The Machu Picchu tour is accompanied by a private tour guide. The visitor can choose to take circuit 1 (panoramic route) or circuit 3 (route through the sacred temples of the lower part). The return trip is the same (bus + train) back to the tourist’s hotel door in Cusco. The tour includes everything except meals.

Machu Picchu is located in the jungle part of the Cusco region. From the city of Cusco, it takes nearly 4 hours to get there. The first leg is by bus or minivan for 1 hour 40 minutes to the town of Ollantaytambo. From there, you’ll board the tourist train which will take you to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) in 1 hour 40 minutes. Finally, in this town, you’ll take the tourist bus which will take you uphill for just 30 minutes to the entrance of Machu Picchu. The TOUR INCLUDES ALL THESE TRANSPORTS!
Itinerary
- The tour starts with hotel pickup from your hotel in the city of Cusco. Pickup is at five in the morning.
- Onboard a tourist transport, we will travel to the Wánchaq station in the city of Cusco. There, we will board the Peru Rail Bimodal bus which will take us in 1 hour 45 minutes to the Ollantaytambo train station in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
- In Ollantaytambo, we will board the Peru Rail Expedition tourist train. The journey is in comfortable seats, with tables and large windows to enjoy the beautiful Andean landscapes. The trip takes an average of 1 hour 45 minutes.
- Once in Aguas Calientes, an assistant will be waiting to greet you and take you to the bus station. After a short wait, we will board the buses that will take us to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu in 30 minutes. The journey is in comfortable seats with large windows to enjoy the views of the green mountain landscapes.
- At the entrance of Machu Picchu, we will meet the tour guide. Together, we will enter the archaeological site for the tour, choosing between two possible tickets: a) Machu Picchu Classic Photo Ticket (Circuit 1) or b) Machu Picchu Lower Temples Ticket (Circuit 3), which has many free spaces available.
- The tour of Circuit 1 will take almost 2 hours. It includes a visit to the Guardian’s House, where you get a panoramic view of all the Inca buildings. From there, you can also get the best photo of Machu Picchu. The tour guide will have time to share more about the history of the Inca city and its buildings.
- The tour of Circuit 3 will take more than 2 hours. It includes a visit to: the terraces, the royal tomb, the Temple of the Sun, the Inca House, the Temple of the Condor, the Water Springs, and more. Of course, you’ll also have time to take beautiful photos of the Inca citadel – a classic photo in the agricultural sector.
- After the Machu Picchu tour with the private guide, we will return to Aguas Calientes by Consettur bus. If you reserved (for an additional cost) the buffet lunch, you will stay for a while in Machu Picchu to enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the 5-star Sanctuary Lodge hotel restaurant.
- In Aguas Calientes, you will have time to have lunch (not included in the tour). At the time specified by the guide, you should head to the train station to travel back by Expedition Bimodal service (train + bus) to the Wánchaq station in the city of Cusco.
- The tour ends with the return of the tourist to the door of their hotel in Cusco around 9 pm.
