The town is located in the province of Anta, about 101 kilometers by road from the city of Cusco. Mollepata is 2,803 kilometers by road from Cusco. Its high mountains near the snow-capped Salkantay mountain have a cold temperate climate with daytime temperatures reaching 18ºC (64ºF). At night, these can drop to 3ºC. or even lower.
