The celebrations take place throughout the city, but the reenactment mainly happens at three locations: Coricancha, Plaza de Armas, and Sacsayhuamán. The most important show takes place at the latter sacred site, and entry is granted with three types of tickets: the orange zone ticket, the red zone ticket, or the green zone ticket. To enjoy the main show, you need to buy one of these tickets, with an estimated purchase time of 2 months in advance. A must-see!

This is the Inti Raymi

Show at Coricancha (Optional Seats)

  • The Inti Raymi performance takes place on June 24th each year.
  • The first show is held on the Coricancha esplanade, with a stage production in which the Inca emperor honors Inti, the Sun God (the main deity of Inca culture).
  • Emissaries from all corners of the empire dance and pay tribute to the sun, accompanied by live music with Andean instruments.
  • The Coricancha show starts at 9 AM and lasts about 40 minutes. No tickets are required (visitors can watch it standing from the surrounding areas).
  • However, for an additional cost, you can purchase a ticket for one of the limited seats at the Coricancha show. Total comfort!

Show at Plaza de Armas (No Seats)

  • The second show takes place at the Plaza de Armas in Cusco, a sacred place that was once called “Haucaypata” or the main square, the venue for the most important Inca ceremonies in the 15th century.
  • A music and dance performance is held there, with hundreds of local Cusco actors and actresses portraying representatives from all the ‘suyos’ or regions of the Inca Empire.
  • The Inca emperor, the coya (wife), and the entire royal entourage offer a coca leaf tribute to the Sun God, just as was done in Inca times.
  • At the end, all the actors and actresses parade around the square.
  • The show at Plaza de Armas starts at 11 AM and lasts about 40 minutes. No entry tickets are required, as all attendees can watch it standing from the best spot they can find.
  • Due to the large crowd, it is recommended to arrive two hours in advance to find available spaces.

Show at Sacsayhuamán (With Tickets)

  • The third show, the main one, takes place on the Sacsayhuamán esplanade, located on the outskirts of Cusco (1.5 kilometers by foot).
  • The show is performed around a stage, and entry is allowed with one of three types of tickets or seats: the orange zone, the red zone, or the green zone.
  • Locals in Cusco also watch the show for free, but they must walk to a hill away from the stage. The place gets extremely crowded, so the best experience is gained by purchasing an entry ticket.
  • The Sacsayhuamán show starts at 2 PM and lasts about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • During this show, the Inca emperor leads several rituals in honor of the Sun, including the recreation of the llama sacrifice and the sacred fire ceremony. Later, representatives from the four ‘suyos’ perform a dance show to the rhythm of Andean music.
  • The entire festival is conducted in Quechua, the Inca language. The finale is scheduled around 4:30 PM with a parade of all the actors and actresses around the Sacsayhuamán esplanade.
